My Aunt Bernie and Uncle Elio have been visiting for the last three weeks and we have enjoyed our time with them. They leave early tomorrow morning to head home to Powell River. Good friends from Cranbrook, Barb and Bob Ward are also visiting right now. Barb and I worked together as nurses at Cranbrook Hospital and our daughters Catherine and Pam are still the best of friends. Pam is getting married next summer and Catherine is her bride's maid. Two weeks ago, my Aunt & Uncle came out to our resort to spend the day with us.

Doug took Uncle Elio around Little Mountain to see the pertoglyphs
Uncle Elio just had to hug a saguaro
We are looking down at all the rocks we have collected over the winter
We then had our friends Barb and Bob out for a barbeque and visit. Luckily I didn't have my bronchitis yet!

We decided we needed to do something special while Aunt Bernie & Uncle Elio were here so I organized a group of us (nearly 30!) to go on the sunset cruise on Saguaro Lake in the Tonto National Park. We took Aunt Bernie & Uncle Elio, our friends Malcolm & Grace, and two of their friends, friends from our park: Paul, Shiryl and Lynda and then a group of about 20 people from a park we stayed in last year that we have stayed friends with. We had a wonderful time, the weather was gorgeous and the sunset beautiful. We capped the cruise off by going for dinner at a local buffet restaurent,

Pulling out of the marina, you can see the McKenzie damn in the background
Saguro Lake is a man made reservoir formed by damning the Salt River
Another look at the damn
Looking out towards the front of the boat
Many different types of rock formations make up the shoreline
It always amazes me how those darn cactus can grow anywhere!
Blue Heron sitting up on top of the hill |
Heading up the lake with the 4 peaks mountain range in the background
Lots of neat rock formations right in the lake
They call this formation Elephant Lake
This out cropping called Ship Wreck rock as many boats have plowed into it coming around the bend in the lake at low light
Lots of saguaro cacti seen usually on the west side of the hills
Lots of marsh land and birds to see
Lots of big boats on the water as it was the start of spring break
This is a boat in campsite that was probably pretty lively come dark as there were a lot of people set up to camp
We are coming up to the end of the lake where it gets too narrow for the boat to navigate so we turned around and headed back
Lots more birds and marshland
The sun is starting to set
Lots of caves all along the water front
Changing colors as the sun sets
Everywhere we looked there was beautiful scenery
The colors constantly changed as the sun got lower
We are disembarking the boat at sunset
The Desert Belle sitting on her lonesome after we have all left
Beautiful sunset to end the evening with
People have been asking me questions about the place we bought so here goes: The reason the people were selling their house: the couple we bought from want to travel with their RV for 2 years so needed the money from the house to pay for it. Our house is in a 55+ resort in Apache Junction about 35 miles east of Phoenix. We get possession March 28th so we are counting the days.
Our friends had a 3 foot long rattlesnake under his truck today - first of the season. Trent used a pole and carried the snake out into the desert. He was quite annoyed his wife Ann didn't take a picture! I guess we'll have to be watchful now on.
