The Dixon's have bought a winter residence!

Well we finally did it! We bought a modular home in a 55+ community. We have been looking since November and just couldn't seem to find a place that we both liked. Anyone that knows us well won't be surprised by that statement! Well about a month ago we saw a home that was being sold by owner in a community we really liked but we were working with a Realtor so not really interested in a private sale. After we ran out of Realtor options, we again visited the park to see if the private sale was still available.  It was, but the people were never home and weren't answering their phone or had an answering machine. We finally went back again Sunday afternoon with a typed note I planned to tape to their door asking them to call us when they returned home. When we got there, their truck was in the carport and they had just arrived home from a trip. They invited us in for a look and I loved the place immediately. Now the really bizarre coincidence: it turns out the couple are from British Columbia and live in my home town Powell River! They retired to PR 4 years ago when he retired from the railway in Prince George. In further conversation, it turns out he and his wife know my cousin Mary and her husband Ken Wood from Prince George. He and Ken worked together for the railway. Talk about a small world eh? Greg and Cindy Frey also live right next door to Gus McClellan sp? whom I knew as a teacher in Powell River. My sister Kathleen's good friend Vicki lives 2 doors down from these people also. I think this home was meant to be for us, Doug even liked it! We got a great deal. It comes fully furnished inside and out (all the patio furniture and barbecue) and the furnishings and pictures are very tasteful. Everything in the kitchen stays, dishes, cutlery, pots & pans - absolutely everything. We get possession March 28 so we will have a couple of weeks to settle in and take anything out of the motor home we want to leave down here before we have to start heading home. The house has 2 bedrooms and a bed chesterfield in the living room so we hope people will come for a visit and stay with us next winter.

There is a lovely set of patio furniture at back of front patio (you can just see it)

There are three orange trees on our property, we can't wait to pick them!

Our carport and Doug's workshop

Side view of the kitchen with brand new floor. It is vinyl but looks like tile

Kitchen view from dining room, there are bar stools for sitting at the counter. There is a new side by side fridge, dishwasher, stove, microwave, water filter and garbarator

Living room with spectacular views of the Superstition Mountains.
Pretty nice furniture eh? Everything stays! The owners are walking out with their clothes and tooth brushes only!

Living room entrance and end of living room. Brand new carpets were installed in June in living, dining rooms and both bedrooms. Hall ways, bathrooms and kitchen were also tiled

Spare bedroom for those people coming to visit us next fall/winter

Nice big closet for guests to hang their clothes

Ensuite bathroom from another angle.
The house was painted outside and every room inside just this year so there really isn't anything we need to do but move in. I love the cathedral ceilings and rounded corners. My only regret is we found it so late in our stay this year! I will only get 2 weeks in our home before we need to start the trek home. Oh well, it will be waiting for us when we return in October this year.

  1. wow, that is fantastic! what a great buy. is it in Apache Junction?
careful what you wish for, because we just might be able to come down for a visit next year. You will need a appointment register to keep track of everyone who wants to beg a bed!!
see you in a few weeks
