December Activities

We can't believe how quickly December is going! The weather was lovely and warm until our Ice Princess Catherine arrived yesterday from the Canadian North! A chill blew down from Canada and descended over Arizona and the day time temps dropped over 10 degrees!
Last week we had our first rain fall since we have been here. It rained hard for a few hours and we got close to an inch of rain and then it cleared up! Saved having to water all the fruit trees.

This is to prove it really did rain - the water doesn't soak into the ground, it runs right down the centre of the street

Of course it was still very warm so Doug enjoyed sitting out and watching it rain!

Got my Christmas tree up and decorated. Still feels funny after all these years to be decorating wearing shorts and having the windows and doors wide open!

We had a gorgeous rainbow later in the morning as the rain clouds cleared off

This was the sunset that evening. It was a day before the full moon even though the moon looks full in this picture

The sky was so beautiful when we still had a few clouds hanging around.

We sold our ATV and cargo trailer through word of mouth to an Alberta farmer! We took it down to Maricopa City (1 1/2 hours south of us) to deliver it to Bill. Bill is our friend Kerry's older brother. He has acreage down there where he spends the winter with his horses. This is Doug teaching Bill all the intricacies of the Rhino. Kerry is looking on. Doug didn't have any trouble letting the ATV go but I found it hard. We had so much fun with it! We still plan on renting an ATV a few times over the winter to do some rides. So stay tuned, there will be some good pictures....

Kerry & Doug in their fifth wheel. Kerry & Marg have a good set-up on Bill's property where they stay most of the winter. We had a lovely evening with them and Marg made a fabulous dinner as usual.

We had a bunch of friends over for Chili and cornbread on Saturday evening December 06th. The weather was beautiful so we ate out on the patio. From the left: Doug, Dennis, Bill, Beth, Sharon, Pat, Mike and Sue. After dinner we all went up to city centre Apache Junction for the Christmas Light parade.

A great bunch of friends and good food. We were all pretty full by the time we were done!

We are all ready for the parade. It really wasn't cold but we thought we should bundle up and pretend we were somewhere cold!

Sue is trying to show Doug how to use her hone to take a picture

 He figured it out!

In Apache Junction Santa Claus leads the parade riding the firetruck. We are all used to having him bring up the end of the parade!

The antique cars were in the parade again and they always look good all decorated

The Grinch was also in attendance

The horses didn't disappoint us, they brought up the rear I guess so parade walkers didn't have to walk through their droppings! Love it now that there are battery operated lights as the horses and their riders are all lit up. Hard to get their pictures though as they are always moving!

Loved the mule with an elf on his back!

This is Jose the Saguaro all ready for Christmas. Doug says I am losing it. I guess there are worse things to lose it over! Everyone gets a good laugh when they see him

I had to make "Tippy" the peacock a little Christmas outfit as he was feeling left out!

Then Doug informed me my quail family on the front of the house were feeling left out and also needed hats so I knitted three more for them! I drew the line after that though......

No sooner do we think we have the house ready to sell and the toilet tank in the ensuite sprung a crack and started to leak. So here was Doug down on the floor installing a new toilet. (Actually, Catherine says it looks like he had a hard night of drinking and this is where he spent the night!)  That is three things now: the main bathroom floor, the kitchen taps and now the ensuite toilet. Doug says enough - get this place sold!

A week later, Saturday night December 13th. We had rain again this morning and the clouds are just clearing off as we head out for the evening with Malcolm and Grace Coupland (Malekwa BC) The sky was so beautiful we had to stop and take some pictures

I thought this cloud formation was so beautiful. We were heading out to Canyon Lake for the lighted boat parade. We had never been before because it is quite a windy narrow back road to get to the lake and as it was dark it made it even more of a challenge but as both of us couples love boats and the water we thought it would be a fun evening ending with going out for dinner after.

It was such a beautiful evening, the water like glass and the boats beautiful, lots of fun

This yacht was fun - in a bit I have a video and you can see people on board with their reindeer noses glowing! I think the people on the boats were having a great time and enjoying a few glasses of eggnog!

Loved this pontoon boat decorated like a Christmas tree

The Dolly Paddlewheeler was all decorated and lead the parade

Myself, Grace and Malcolm on the docks watching the parade. Doug was taking our picture

Some boats were pretty plain and others pretty fancy!

A closer look at the Christmas Tree boat

Grace and I by the Dolly Paddle wheeler steering wheel with the boat behind us. It had just come back into the dock after the parade
Well I tried to insert my video of the boat parade but it was too large a files so I'll just post on Facebook separately! Next blog will be Catherine's vist
