I had to take this picture the next day in the sunlight but this is what he looked like in the dark hours of the morning when the guys drove up to our truck. He was standing behind the truck with his sign. Bruce was laughing so hard he nearly drove into our truck!
The guys drove all the way up to Black Canyon north of Cave Creek and then about 15 miles into the mountains. They had their ATV's along so they could drive up the washes with sandy soil. They gathered their sand and then panned it in the back of their ATV's
You can see them panning for gold, of course they all came back empty handed. They had a great day and really couldn't have cared less if they got gold or not!
The guys also brought their metal detectors along and this is Bruce trying his luck in a wash
These were the type of sandy washes they tried for gold in
Heavy clouds blew in during the early afternoon and they had a few sprinkles
Doug says it got pretty dark at times
Way back in the hills and they still find houses!
Of course they saw a few snakes
They always say every year on the News how many "males" get bitten by rattlesnakes and they say it is usually because they are poking them with sticks. Need I say anymore??
Not sure what this snakes was but it sure is long! The fellows didn't get home till nearly 9pm but they all had a good time!
The picture doesn't do this justice but his is a saguaro cacti boot that our friend (sitting next to me) Sharon Keyes painted for me. It has a picture of a road runner with a gecko in its mouth and a saguaro cactus on it. Really cool!!
We went for a picnic in the desert last week to spend our last time with our friend's Ann and Trent. They had to return early to Minnesota due to Ann's mother's declining health. Her Mom is 94 year's old! The ocotillo plants are greening up and just starting to bloom. They add such lovely colour to the desert
A close up view of the ocotillo blooming
This was where we stopped to have our picnic lunch. A beautiful spot with a lovely view!
